Prime Minister Gilani met notables of the area

MULTAN, Dec 29: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that uplift of the backward areas was the top priority of the PPP-led government and a robust and unprecedented process of development was in progress in less-developed areas.Talking to a delegation of notables here at Prime Minister House, he said that he would soon announce to build a big state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Multan.Prime Minister Gilani said that motorway and Multan international airport projects would bring about an economic revolution in southern Punjab. He said that he donated his own land for construction of a model basic health unit at Hamidpur Kanora village.He said that Multan cadet College project would be completed within stipulated period.He said that newly-built Head Mohammadwala bridge was the longest bridge in the country and added that a sum of Rs 2.5 billion would be spent to build a road from this bridge to Chowk Naag Shah in Multan.
Gilani said that the government initiated numerous development projects for the uplift of backward areas in accordance with the vision of the martyred party leaders.   
The Prime Minister said that PPP rendered numerous sacrifices for the cause of democracy. He said that the edifice of democracy would never fall as it derives strength from the sacrifices rendered by the people and martyrs who fortified it with their blood.
He said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had triggered a real revolution when he gave strength to the downtrodden and impoverished communities to speak for their rights.
Prime Minister Gilani said that PPP was the name of an ideology and the responsibility he was holding today was the trust of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
He said that those who had not seen Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto were raising slogan: “Zinda Hey Bhutto Zinda Hey”.
The Prime Minister said that PPP-led government provided funds for development for all areas without any discrimination. He said that there was no political prisoner or any journalist confined in jails. He said that PPP believes in freedom of media and welcomes positive criticism.
He said the government gave Rs 25 billion subsidy on urea and fertilizers and fixed Rs 1,050 per 40 kg support price of wheat to enable growers get due return for their produce.
