MULTAN,June Ist: At least four persons including Director General of Rangers Punjab Maj.General Muhammad Nawaz , Pilot Lt.Col Aamer Abbas, PRO to D.G. Rangers and another person have died when a helicopter Ghazi-16 fell into the deep water of river indus at kot Sultan in Layyah district some 150 km west of Multan on Wednesday.ISPR confirmed the falling of a helicopter into the river indus which took off from the Dera Ismail Khan on operational duty and rescue team were trying to find the wreckage of the helicopter and bodies of ill-fated persons.DPO Layyah Ch.Muhammad Saleem said," Helicopter caught fire in the air due to windstorm then pilot Aamer Abbas contacted the Multan tower at 10-12 am and informed it that he was coming to Multan but it fell into the deep water of river indus near village Bukhri Ahmed(Kot Sultan).DPO said that one body wqas recovered from the river but he could not be recognised .Ranger sources said that Capt. Asif Nawaz son of Maj.General Muhammad Nawaz were also on board. Eye witnesses said that they saw the helicopter engulfed with flames When contacted the Rangers Punjab office in Lahore.They declined to confirm the death of Director General Punjab and others.
