Complete strike, protest demos on killings in Harnai

A strike was observed in Harnai Friday to protest against the killing of three drivers and an official in the district.
The strike call was given by PkMAP, which was supported by other parties, including ANP and JUI.
Kidnappers killed three drivers in Harnai while armed men shot dead Health Department dispenser Muhammad Amir, drawing ire among the people in the district. All the markets, shops, medical stores and restaurants remained closed while the wheel-jam strike was observed, crippling routine life in the district.
Dozens of vehicles were stranded on Harnai-Quetta Highway. Most of the health centres, including the DHQ hospital remained closed against the murder of official. However, doctors attended patients in emergency department.
Dozens of workers of PkMAP and ANP, led by Abdullah Khan Lala and Kaliq Dad, took out a rally against the killings and staged a demonstration at the Sharag football ground.
Addressing the protesters, the speakers strongly condemned the murder of three drivers and a dispenser, saying they would not tolerate anti-social elements in Harnai.
They demanded the administration step up efforts for maintaining law and order and bring the culprits to book.
On the other hand, the deputy commissioner said that the holidays of Levies Force personnel were cancelled and security was augmented to thwart any untoward incident. He said the situation of Sharag was under control. A mob threw stones on security men and set three Levies Force vehicles on fire late Thursday.
Meanwhile, a strike, led by the All Quetta Coaches Union, on the Karachi-Quetta Highway to protest against the growing rate of robberies and kidnapping of drivers and passengers in the area entered the fourth day.
