Rs.10 million damages demand by NADRA Chairman from Ch.Nisar

The Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Ali Arshad Hakeem filed a civil suit in the Islamabad High Court on Monday against opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
Hakeem claimed that Nisar has damaged the credibility of Nadra and is claiming damages worth Rs10 billion.
He said that Nisar blames Nadra officials for preparing fake identity cards for the employees of the housing society of a real estate tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain.
Hussain earlier accused the opposition leader of using the police to pressurise him to extend him political support.
Earlier this year, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary while hearing a suo motu case on the registration of bogus identity cards at the behest of Bahria Town developer, Malik Riaz, directed Nadra to close all its offices situated on the premises of Bahria Town or adjacent areas.
The chief justice remarked that it was against the prestige of a national institution to indulge in malpractice.
During the course of the hearing, the applicant, Muhammad Hashmi, informed the court that Malik Riaz had asked his employees who number 20,000 to get new identity cards with Bahria Town addresses.
