The investigation team of the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General (DG) Zafar Qureshi, has found evidence that the official records have been tampered with in order to favour the accused.
According to FIA sources, records related to the findings of the investigation conducted by Qureshi and his team were tampered with during the time Qureshi was disassociated from the investigation process. “Some of the FIA officials were involved in tampering the record to give favour to the accused… the department has started an enquiry into the matter to fix responsibility,” the sources said.To a question regarding the acceptance of resignation of FIA DG Tehseen Anwar Shah, another source in the FIA said that “he tricked the establishment and Supreme Court”.
“He did not resign from the office, rather he resigned from the post, which is also still pending approval of the authorities concerned,” the source said. “To date, Shah is giving instructions to officials as the head of the agency,” he added. The source further revealed further that though Shah had gone on leave “to avoid being part of the investigation team of the NICL scam”, he visited the office after hours. The FIA team headed by Qureshi had initiated a fresh enquiry into the scam after the Supreme Court (SC) reinstated him as the lead investigator on August 8, but the probe continued to hit ‘pre-planned’ obstacles.
