Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has said that the arrest of Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai by FBI in the United States was an act of ‘conspiracy’ of India "that will not deter Kashmir freedom movement".
“The arrest was undertaken without any evidence. This conspiracy of India is aimed to weaken our struggle but it won’t weaken our movement at any level,” he said in a statement.
“Fai has been an undeterred advocate of Kashmir cause and India through diplomatic channels wants to suppress him but he is stronger than ever,” Geelani said.
The Hurriyat chairman appealed people in and outside the Valley to hold demonstrations after Friday prayers on July 22 to protest against Fai’s arrest.
Meanwhile, Chairman Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah said that Fai’s arrest by FBI was a surprise. “We have always considered America a country which respects the cause of Kashmir and we hope they release Fai soon,” he said in a statement. Other freedom movement leaders Aga Syed Hassan, Azam Inquilabi, Javid Ahmad Mir and Zaffar Akbar Bhat have also condemned the arrest.
