Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Monday directed Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan to retake charge as Sindh Governor, South Punjab News reported.MQM had quit the PPP-led government on June 27, 2011 in centre and Sindh.Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan had also tendered his resignation from the office of Governor Sindh.The strife between MQM and PPP-led government had been triggered by the government’s decision to defer elections for three Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly seats last month.As a result, the MQM leadership had decided that it was no longer possible for the party to continue functioning as part of the Pakistan People's Party-led coalition government.Meanwhile, President Zardari in reaction to today’s MQM decision said this was a positive sign for reconciliation in Pakistan politics.
Speaking to South Punjab News, PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said that his party knew this would happen and stated that MQM ministers should also return to their posts.He added that it was difficult to sit in the opposition and the PPP and MQM should stop acting and not play games with the people.
MQM had also filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the deferment of June 26 scheduled Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) elections for the Karachi seats.Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan who is presently in Dubai will not be able to reach Karachi tonight due to non-availability of a flight; he will catch the first flight Tuesday morning to return to the city, South Punjab News reported Monday.
Earlier, the Governor said while talking to the media men that he would reach Karachi sometime tonight and that his staff was making arrangements in this regards.
President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the statement of Altaf Hussain asking Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan to resume work as Governor Sindh and termed it a good omen for harmony and reconciliation not only in the province but also throughout the country.Altaf Hussain had asked Dr. Ebad to work in harmony with the federal and provincial governments under the guidance of the President.Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the president welcomed Ebad, who will immediately return to the country.The president expressed the hope that it will mark a new beginning of peace and stability in the province.
