Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol attracts dozens

Shoaib Mansoor’s much awaited film ‘Bol’, which addresses gender issues in today’s Pakistani society, and has already been making waves among those who have seen the first few private screenings, made its premiere on Thursday.
With two premieres held on the same day, one in the evening and the other at night, the film has managed to attract dozens to Cine Star, and a rush of people was seen trying eagerly to get their tickets booked in advance.
Actors who have acted in the movie were also giving away signed tickets to those who lined up for advance booking. However, an exclusive screening of the film limited the audience.
The story is centered on a conservative family with seven daughters. The film encompasses social issues and crimes including rape, domestic violence, social bias against eunuchs, stigma of contraception, and the controversial issue of prostitution. While the film took its time for release, the soundtrack of the movie had already gotten many interested, as songs by Atif Aslam and Hadiqa Kiani made their way to the television and were liked. Shoaib Mansoor’s choice of actors included Atif Aslam, Mahira Khan, Iman Ali, Humaima Abbasi and others. Though they are not veteran actors, Shoaib Mansoor is known to have said that for him, passion mattered more than intrinsic talent. The rest can be directed, he believes. The film is about three hours long and with some relief in the middle from its intensity provided by light music from the soundtrack of the movie. The title ‘Bol’ denotes speaking out for what is right.
