Fourteen children droned to death when a van fell into canal

At least fourteen school going children drowned and four were rescued when a school van fall in Upper Jehlum canal here in Ali Baig area of  Mir Pur (Azad Kashmir) on Friday morning.
According to media reports, a school van carrying eighteen children was going from Ali Baig to Mir Pur Khas when the van fall in upper Jehlum canal as a result of which fourteen children drowned while only four could be rescued out of which three are in critical condition.
According to Assistant Commissioner Mir Pur Azad Kashmir, Ali Asghar the eighteen children were boarded on the van out of which only four could be saved while unfortunately fourteen drowned and their dead bodies have been recovered.
According to reports, students of Army Public School, Jairy and Mirpur School were on board the van. The eye-witnesses said that driver’s negligence was the cause of the accident. Upper Jehlum Canal has been shut down to find the missing children.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan expressed grief over the incident and also expressed condolence with the bereaved families and announced compensation for the families of the victims.
