Eight including a mQM activist killed in violence in Karachi

Violence continued in the metropolis on Monday claiming eight more lives, including an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).Police recovered two bodies of youth from a graveyard situated within the remits of Baldia police station. The culprits abandoned two bodies at Sector-7 Baldia Town’s graveyard before fleeing in the wee hours. Later, police shifted the bodies to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities. SHO Irfan Meo said both victims were handcuffed and had several torture marks and also bullet wounds. Officer said one victim, later identified as Shakeel Qureshi, son of Haji Younus Qureshi, was a resident of Agra Taj Colony, Lyari. He was kidnapped on Sunday from Kalri. Officer said victim had no political affiliation and Lyari warfare might have motivated the incident. The unidentified body was moved to the Edhi morgue for identification. An activist of MQM, Rafiq Uddin, 38, son of Shafiq Uddin was shot dead in his rent-a-car shop situated at Golimar Chowrangi within the limits of Nazimabad police station. Rafiq was at his shop when two armed motorcyclists targeted him. Body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for post-mortem. Police said that the victim was an activist of MQM and so is his brother of unit 169. Separately, two people, including younger brother of a notorious Lyari gangster, were shot dead by unidentified assailants at Gul Mohammad Lane, Chakiwara No 2 within the limits of Kalakot police station. Bodies were shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities. SHO Babar Hameed said one victim was identified as Haji Jummah, 35, whereas the other remained unidentified. Jummah was the younger brother of Mullah Sultan, a close aide of Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu. Officer said Jummah had no criminal record but the reason for his murder could be some Lyari gang dispute. The unidentified body was shifted to Edhi Morgue while case was to be registered till filing of this report.In another incident, a cold drink depot owner was shot dead near Allah Rakha Park, Makar Para, within the precincts of Kharadar police station. SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said victim Wajid, son of Abdul Wahid, a resident of Naya Abad Lyari and used to run his cold drink depot in Kharadar where the armed men targeted him. Officer said that the victim had no political affiliation. Body was shifted to CHK for autopsy and later handed over to victim’s brother. Police have registered a case against unidentified men and initiated the probe.

In yet another incident, police found a gunny-bagged body of a woman from the slum of Surjani within the jurisdiction of Surjani Town police station. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained and police found her body from bushes situated near the slum of sector 5-C. Duty officer Khan Mohammad said that the victim had several torture marks and was choked to death. Police suspect that the victim had been raped before murder. Body was shifted to the ASH for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, police found a man’s body from a house situated by Aslam Brohi Road Lyari within the jurisdiction of Chakiwara police station. The victim was later identified as Ejaz Baloch 35, son of Pir Dad Baloch a resident of Singolane Lyari. SHO Yousuf Baloch said that the victim was in the house with his friends and on a possible money dispute, one of them shot him. Officer said one Adnan who lives in Dubai is the owner of the house and the victim was the caretaker in his absence. Body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the family.
