"Women Empowerment through Water Supply Schemes" in Muzaffargarh

MULTAN,May 2nd:Friends Foundation Pakistan (FFP)has planned for the execution of Water Supply Schemes,Health activities and providing shelter in Flood hit areas of Muzaffargarh, Alipur sub divisions and Layyah Districtwith the collaboration of different donors,said Abdul Mateen Satti Project Manager while briefing the media here today. He said that FFP was implementing a project namely "Women Empowerment through Water Supply Schemes" in Muzaffargarh district with the collaboration of Asia Foundation and Aurat Foundation funded by USAID in Ghazi Ghat and Wan Pitafi. According to him, main focus of the project was to provide the safe and healthy services relating to water and hygienic environment  in the Flood affected communities of two union councils and aware them of potable water and to empower them in decision mechanism ,their duties and rights.This project will be complete by July 31st,2011 after six months.FFP was executing this project on two baselines ,one of them is Knowledge, attitude and practices.Satti said that ignorance, illiteracy were emerging  negative effects on their health,culture, civilisation describing it harmful to socio-demographic life.They are using polluted, unhygienic , unclean water for drinking purpose which caused trhe water-borne and communicable diseases.Sattai further said ,"we are developing awareness among the women about their rights because women these remoted areas have no awareness about their rights and obligations.FFP had trained 180 womenon water, hygiene and health  besides providing them awareness about water purification methods.Now these trained female members are involved to educate other women of the area.FFP had organised four water user committees which would help in rehabilitation of water supply schemes.
