Flood affectees rally, sit in before Prime Minister House in Multan

MULTAN, April 10th: Hundreds of flood affected people including women children on Sunday afternoon organised a big rally from Allama Iqbal Park under the auspices of Pattan Development Organisation and Tehrik Bahaliye Sailab Zadgan. They moved to Prime Minister House and oberved sit in before his Multan residence.The rally was led by Dr.Sarwar Bari, M.Saboor,Rani Waheeda, Azra, Ruqaiya, Murtaza, Dr.Umar Farooq,Ijaz Ahmed,Haji Tahir,Sajjad Noon,Rabnawaz,Muhammad Iqbal,Nasir Shah,Mazhar Jaskani,, Abid Hussain, and Khalida Nadeem .Participants were carrying placards, banners inscribed with slogans," Construct our homes,:" Pay Rs.one lac as compensation," The demonstrators said that they are still living under open sky.Government did nothing for their rehabilitation,provision of jobs and construction of their homes. Even roads, bridges,Schools, hospitals, rural health centres were not rebuilt.the protesters said that the floods had wiped away their houses and food stock.They said that they were left with nothing and the government should provide them with adequate relief.The communication infrastructure across South Punjab has not been restored so far as several bridges and roads connecting different towns remain unfit for use.Though the flood waves had passed through the areas some five months ago including Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Taunsa, they still remain submerged up to five feet in water.Similarly breaches in dykes, protection bunds, canals had not been filled despite the lapse of 6 moths. Owing to the breach, a powerful torrent had found way and inundated several settlements in Qadirpur, Shikarpur and Aqilpur areas of Rajanpur district. The residents requested the government to fill the breach as it was exposing the areas to further danger.
