Vote of confidence for Prime Minister-Sindh High court

The Sindh High Court on Friday issued notice to the Deputy Attorney General to submit comments on a constitutional petition filed by an advocate against the president and the prime minister, seeking the court directions to the prime minister to get the vote of confidence from the National Assembly because coalition partners of the government have withdrawn their support.

The SHC’s division bench, comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi, was hearing a constitutional petition filed by advocate Rasheed A Akhund against the president, prime minister and Speaker National Assembly.

The petitioner pleaded the court that the ruling Pakistan People’s Party had secured 127 seats out of 342 in the previous general elections and formed the government with the help of coalition partners - Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Muttahida Qaumi Movement. He claimed that the government’s coalition partners, excluding the Awami National Party, have withdrawn their support. He prayed the court to direct the DAG to submit the comments within a month in this regard.
